I was an Army combat medic sergeant, from 2001 to 2009, with two combat deployments. I trained 95% of a 100-person infantry company as Combat Lifesavers. Then I spent more than a decade in finance, including fund reporting, Board and regulatory reporting at a bank, and a year as CFO of a small company. Four times, my job was putting new software into a finance function without breaking the numbers. Workiva went from signed contract to full production in 1.5 months, and I trained the reporting staff on it. Today I build AI agents and automation by hand.

What I took from all of it: three things decide whether a person or a business wins. The skills of the people. How well they use their tools. And whether they lead or only manage.
